Ted Lasso Season 3: The Good, The Bad, The End

In Ted Lasso Season 3, the stakes are higher, the laughs are heartier, and the heartfelt moments hit deeper than ever. Our beloved coach, Ted, continues to face challenges that go beyond the pitch, from friendship to loyalty to self-discovery. With a team (and fans) who need him now more than ever, Ted’s journey shows that even if life’s playbook seems impossible, there’s always hope in believing, learning, and growing together.

A show that was first aired when the world is in the gloom of pandemic in 2020, the show was the hope and comfort for millions during those trying times. The development of the show also contributed to the success. Little wonder it was able to rack up nominations for its first season in the Primetime Emmy Awards’ history, took home 7 awards, won the 2021 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Sudeikis, Waddingham, and Goldstein also receive awards for their outstanding performances.

Ted Lasso Season 3: An Underdog’s Rise to Glory

Ted Lasso, created by Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly, is a comedy-drama series about an optimistic American football coach, Ted Lasso, hired to lead the English soccer team, AFC Richmond. The owner of the soccer team secretly wishes that Ted will fail because of his inexperience, but Ted proves he can be anything, driving the soccer team to success against all odds. But Lasso’s new found glory is taking him far away from his wife, who wanted a divorce. The show’s third season, premiered on March 15, 2023, explores Ted’s leadership amid rising personal and professional pressures.

  • The first season of 10 episodes premiered on Apple TV+ on August 14, 2020. The first three episodes were released at once, followed by weekly installments of the remaining seven.
  • The second season of 12 episodes premiered July 23, 2021.
  • The third season of 12 episodes premiered March 15, 2023.

In Ted Lasso Season 3, the series deepens its exploration of identity, vulnerability, and resilience as Ted, the lovable American football coach turned English soccer manager, tackles both personal and professional challenges. Premiering on March 15, 2023, the season focuses on Ted’s struggle with anxiety and homesickness as he leads AFC Richmond through the English Premier League. The team faces mounting pressures, rivalries, which push the characters toward growth and self-reflection.

Season 3 drew specific praise for Jason Sudeikis’s portrayal of Ted, alongside strong performances by the ensemble cast, bringing themes of mental health, leadership, and friendship into sharp focus. However, just like any genre, there will always be shows that are less compelling to a certain audience. Same actors, good storylines, just some stories that don’t sit well with some audience. This can be said of Ted Lasso Season 3

Is Ted Lasso Season 3 Really Worth Watching?

Ted Lasso Season 3 was met with mixed feelings and many complained that it was more bloated than the previous seasons in terms of the number of underlying stories as rather than the linear storyline maintained in the previous seasons, Ted’s personal struggles, Rebecca’s inner void, Keeley’s business engagement with PR and Nate’s rise in the ranks all formed differing subplots within the major Season 3 design.

One common criticism is that the narrative felt scattered. Instead of the tight, story arc that previous seasons maintained, Ted Lasso Season 3 introduced numerous subplots, including Ted’s personal journey, Rebecca’s search for fulfilment, Keeley’s PR business and many more. It appears the Season 3 was overstuffed and they try to wrap everything up in the finale. However, these additional storylines are like a shift from Ted himself and many expressed their dissatisfaction on how the lead character seemed less present. His screen time more focused on his internal struggles than his coaching role at AFC Richmond.

Some of the viewers reviewed that the attempts in this season particularly in discussing queerness and issues regarding mental health have been too much or unnatural. Not like the added themes are not appreciated, but it felt rushed, making these storylines feel more like last-minute additions rather than being a part of the character’s lives in the first place.

Despite these criticisms, Ted Lasso Season 3 hasn’t lost much of its appeal. For instance, the bromance exhibited by Roy Kent and Jamie Tartt had grown to be one of the best of the season since it showed the progress of the two characters. Likewise, Rebecca’s journey, bolstered by Hannah Waddingham’s powerful performance, was appreciated by a lot of the fans resulting in some of the most heartfelt moments of the season. Overall, even with its imperfections, Ted Lasso Season 3 retained enough of the show’s trademark warmth and optimism to captivate its audience, albeit without the same universal acclaim as its earlier season

Is Ted Lasso Season 3 The End? Will Ted Lasso Season 4 Come?

Yes, Season 3 of Ted Lasso is considered the end of the main storyline, according to the show’s creators and lead actor Jason Sudeikis.

Sudeikis told Deadline:

“This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell. The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet—that being Ted Lasso Season 3—it’s flattering. Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season have been released, they’re like, ‘Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it.’ But until that time comes, I will appreciate the curiosity beyond what we’ve come up with so far.”

However, there has been no official confirmation from Apple TV+ regarding whether Ted Lasso Season 3 is indeed the last season. The show’s creators and cast have remained tight-lipped, leaving fans in suspense. Given the show’s popularity and critical acclaim, it wouldn’t be surprising if a fourth season is in the works. For now, fans can only speculate and hope for more of Ted’s inspiring journey and the heartwarming stories of AFC Richmond.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of a Ted Lasso Season 4?
